Karate ("kara" - empty, "te" - hand) is a unique Martial Art style that originated primarily in Okinawa, Japan. It is a method of unarmed combat which was developed and systemized by the Okinawans after its introduction by the Chinese, centuries earlier. As a means of self-defense, physical fitness and self-improvement, karate is without equal. This intricate art form and method of attaining supreme health and flexibility is founded on the basic principles of body movement, that direct the student to developing into well-coordinated individual, both physically and mentally.
Karate can be beneficial for everyone. For children karate teaches self-control, self-discipline and self-motivation, plus all the physical aspects of the art. For adults of all ages karate has many more attributes to offer over regular aerobics. Students will discover for themselves that karate is excellent for toning muscle and increasing flexibility but more importantly for self-defense. Karate is one of the few exercise regimens that combines stretching, strengthening, aerobic, and anaerobic fitness.
Classes are taught by School Director Martin Hung Sensei, 7th dan, who began his karate training in 1974 under Canadian Karate pioneer Masami Tsuruoka Sensei.
